We took a day trip up to Hamilton Falls from Mount Snow. The ride took about 45 minutes. Great little day-trip of exploring with the family. We took RT 100 north/30 East towards Hamilton and went north along Windham Hill Rd which was a beautiful ride. Many open meadows and beautiful farms leading up to Hamilton Falls Rd.
We hike both trails to the falls. The trail which takes you to the upper falls and the trail that takes you to the lower falls. Sounds confusing? As you reach the falls area on Hamilton Falls Rd you may see a small “falls” sign. This sign directs you to the lower falls trail. If you continue another 100 yards down the rd a second trail will take you to the upper falls. See warning regarding upper falls below!
The hike down to the lower falls is fairly easy but can get slick with running water. During spring runoff the falls are gushing and don’t disappoint. The water is beautiful as it cascades off the top rocks. Many people stroll into the bottom pool but get barely farther than ankle deep as the spring water is cold as ice! Refreshing but cold.
Tips: Hike in on the second trail first to get a great view of the top of the falls. Then backtrack the trail and up the road to the trail that takes you to the bottom of Hamilton Falls.
Warning: Upper Hamilton Falls is NO JOKE. People have been seriously injured or worse by climbing into and or exploring the top. I highly recommend you take a peek and then head to the bottom.
Hiking Difficulty: Easy to moderate.
Best Time to go: Spring when the water is rushing.
